A Lifetime of Service

John Stallings has dedicated almost half a century to the schools and youth of Yancey County as an educator, coach, mentor, and motivational speaker.

He is exceptionally proud of the youth and schools of Yancey County and is committed to ensuring quality education, and supportive environments for staff and educators.

Mr. Stallings is proud to have served the citizens of Yancey County both in his roles with the schools and also as county commissioner.

Teacher and Coach

Mr. Stallings brings valuable in-classroom experience, having spent 24 years teaching high-school history and social studies at Mountain Heritage High School and eight years teaching sixth-grade social studies at Cane River Middle School.

After retiring, Mr. Stallings continued to contribute to Yancey County Schools, serving fifteen more years as a substitute teacher.

Mr. Stallings is proud to be called “coach” by many in Yancey County. He spent fourteen years coaching football and six years coaching softball at Mountain Heritage and coached again at the middle school level for several years.

Focused on Education

John Stallings will provide resources and pathways for all students in Yancey County to develop and succeed.

He pledges to create a learning environment with opportunities for all students to excel.

Mr. Stallings is committed to removing bias and partisan politics from the school board and basing all decisions on reasonable educational principles.

He believes in a culture of cooperation and respect, and will empower and support school-based leadership in personnel and policy decisions.

He will be guided by the best interests of the students and staff of Yancey County Schools.
